LA-Ojai – Ojai-LA

In the fourth episode of In Like Cyn accomplished screenwriter Cynthia Troyer launches her latest project. An awesome new YouTube playlist on channel The Comedy Multiverse chronicling an epic day in the life of one of Hollywood’s next rising starlets. In a dazzling fourth installment our host Cynthia Troyer takes us on a journey to the city of Ojai through an inventive fast motion frenzied ride that is fun for both the eyes and ears thanks to the beats of Sage Emeralds.

Ojai. A miniscule city when compared to Los Angeles. Its population rests at 7461. Wow! That’s actually more then I was expecting. That’s only 16,362,539 less then Los Angeles. Located in the widespread hills and mountains of Ventura County, it stands northwest of Los Angeles and east of Santa Barbara with a valley that stretches 10 miles long.

If expansive hiking trails across majestic mountain scopes give you a bulge in your sweat pants then please look no further. If sleeping in a wooden cabin gives you a woody then please look no further. If Sunday morning farmers markets give you a morning hard on then please look no further. If indie music festivals give your Arctic Monkey an Electric Feel then please look no further. If any of these Ojai festivities make your pants panther meow like a Persian tiger then you’ve come to the right place.

Our eclectic antique stores and spiritual guru shops will give all you New Age hippies with a bonerlicious craving for a new season of Portlandia something to talk about with the your love birds back home. Unless of course you’ve brought your love bird along on this Aquarius vacation because in that case enjoy all the self-help psychology and western metaphysical traditions as a lovely couple. Ever seen that movie Wanderlust with Jennifer Anniston and Paul Rudd? That’s what your life is about to turn into.

Everyone can fall in love with Ojai. Now I myself am a gun wielding flag waving tobacco spitting red blooded patriot but let’s not assume you walk my path. Does Buddha gives you wet dreams? Does an hour of Yoga put a couple inches on your stem? If drinking a freshly squeezed cup of O.J. makes your banana cry then maybe you’re the tree hugging vegetarian hippie Ojai needs.

I’ve done my fair share of traveling across the United States and I often find myself in these adorable little hipster cities where farmers markets, small businesses, small concert venues, hiking trails, outdoor activities and recreational parks are the culture of the people. You’re not going to find a lot of McDonald’s or Targets in these cities. As far as the eye can see you will not stumble upon a shopping mall.

You may think you’ve never visited one of these hipster cities before. But you have tasted one. The birthplace of Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream (now a global brand) all began in Burlington, Vermont. A couple of 1970s hippies with sexy long flowing beaded hair built this multi-billionaire dollar corporation and it all started in one of these adorable little hipster cities. Burlington, very much like Ojai, is home to hundreds of little ice cream parlors, burger joints and family owned delis with a unique taste unlike Wendy’s, Carl’s Jr or Burger King.

In my sacred home of Los Angeles corporate chains and endless streets of indistinguishable buildings are commonplace. But what you’re experiencing in cities like Ojai is a slice life unique to the people of that city. Their music. Their shops. Their green patches of Earth. It only exists within their own little world and there’s something very poetic about that.

Ojai is not a place for corporate chains, amusement parks and high-rise buildings. But what you will find are bicycles. Green patches of Earth sharing the ground with the cement sidewalks. Family owned businesses on every street corner. With titles and logos you’ve never seen anywhere else. Because there’s only one in the world.

Local bands whose names are only infamous to the people dancing beside you. They’ll play original songs in genres you’ve never heard before. Maybe they’re creating something new. A musical renaissance of sorts. The way Jazz was born. Yes, that my friend is a delicious slice of Ojai and let me tell yah, I don’t think your going to find anywhere else in the world that tastes just quite like it.
