“The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho

Plot Summary: Santiago, an Andalusian shepherd boy, has a dream about finding a treasure in the Pyramids of Egypt.  A gypsy woman and an old man claiming to be a mysterious king advise him to pursue it.  “To realize one’s destiny is a person’s only obligation,” the old man tells him.  “And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you achieve it.”

This beautiful fable is filled with magic, dreams, treasure and universal wisdom.  The book explores the idea of every man possessing a “Personal Legend.”  When Santiago sells his sheep to go on his quest, there is more in store for him than he has imagined.  The journey Santiago goes on represents the quest of every man to fulfill their own destiny, and to understand their individuality is to be celebrated.

Read the book, it will ignite your own passionate commitment to claiming the life of your own dreams.

The exploration of the idea of a “Personal Legend” is a beautiful metaphor for discovering your own mission on this earth.  Day in and day out, each of us are distracted by the minutia of life: laundry, wash the car, grocery shopping, and a whole myriad of other problems, that we forget to reconnect inside and touch our own Personal Legend and nurture it.  Stand out and be yourself.  Be original, there is only one you.

Is there a dream or a call to adventure that you have given up on, or that you have forgotten that you even desired?  Is there a trip that you have always desired to take but have always found the excuses of life have side railed it?  Maybe it’s time to go back and re-examine your life, and make sure you are on track in regards to your own inner desires, it’s okay, these impulses come from the Soul of the Universe.  It’s okay to give birth to them.  Why not start today!?  Seek your own Personal Legend!  You deserve it.

“It’s what you have always wanted to accomplish.  Everyone, when they are young, knows what their Personal Legend is.  At that point in their lives, everything is clear and everything is possible.  They are not afraid to dream, and to yearn for everything they would like to see happen to them in their lives.  But, as time passes, a mysterious force begins to convince them that it will be impossible for them to realize their Personal Legend.”

“It’s a force that appears to be negative, but actually shows you how to realize your Personal Legend.  It prepares your spirt and your will, because there is one great truth on this planet: whoever you are, or whatever it is that you do, when you really want something, it’s because that desire originated in the soul of the universe.  It’s your mission on earth.”
