In the kick-ass eighth episode of In Like Cyn accomplished screenwriter Cynthia Troyer continues her latest project. An awesome new selfie reality show on YouTube channel The Comedy Multiverse, chronicling an epic day in the life of one of Hollywood’s next rising starlets. In a dazzling eighth installment co-hosts Cynthia Troyer and Taylor Marie DeLine introduce us into the world of witchcraft and tarot cards.
The tarot is a pack of 15th century playing cards used in various parts of Europe. Since the late 18th Century, tarot has been used by mystics and occultists for divination as well as a map of mental and spiritual pathways. The tarot decks have four suits just like any common deck of playing cards. Each of these suits has pip cards numbering from one (or Ace) to ten and four face cards (King, Queen, Knight, and Jack/Knave) for a total of 14 cards. In addition, a tarot deck has a separate 21-card trump suit as well as a single card known as The Fool.
Are Tarot cards considered “evil” or “witchcraft”? It’s considered ‘fortune telling’ or divination by the Catholics. Although many Christian branches have been known to open Bibles and randomly point out passages, in order to know what they should do at some juncture in their lives.
How witchcraft works. If we mix certain ingredients in a drink, eat a special herb, read tarot cards, arrange candles in a certain configuration, stare into a crystal ball, draw certain symbols or even say a certain mantra then spiritual forces will come into play. Here’s a quick Bible quote for ya’ll. James 3:15 (NIV) “Such wisdom does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, of the devil.”
Does Witchcraft Work? Satan occasionally releases power, even doing supernatural miracles for those who have rebelled against God and yet still want to be spiritually effective. By this means, real power can be exerted to achieve health, beauty and supernatural sensitivity. Insights can be made through the indulgence of drugs, which induce certain experiences, oracles and visions. In this sense, witchcraft works. I’m going to quote the Bible once more. Exodus 7:22 (NIV) But the Egyptian magicians did the same things by their secret arts, and Pharaoh’s heart became hard; he would not listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the Lord had said.
If you do decide to buy tarot cards it’s vital that you don’t just buy the first tarrot deck you see. Make sure you go to new age store and look for a deck that you connect with. Some believe that you should sleep with your tarot cards in your pillowcase to share your energy with it and make sure you clense them with sage before using them. Cyn: Hello, hello and welcome to another episode of In Like Cyn. And today I’m giving a Tarot card reading.
TITLE: Cynthia Troyer, screenwriter
TITLE: TAROT with TAYLER!
Cyn: And my victim – no, the person I’m giving a reading card reading today is Tayler!
TMD: Hello everyone. My name is Tayler, this is my first Tarot card reading ever.
TITLE: Tayler Marie DeLine! Actress / Disney princess
TMD: I’m a little nervous, but I’m also very excited because I feel like I’m in good hands with Cynthia.
Cyn: Alright, so let’s see what literally is in the cards for Tayler.
TMD: Woooo!
CUT
Cyn: This is a normal, standard Tarot card deck.
ANNOTATION: Tarot goes as far back as Egyptian culture…
Cyn VO: Each card possesses a pictagram, and title that represents a specific concept or archetype. I interpret these images and a story emerges.
ANNOTATION: The earliest known tarot decks weren’t designed with mysticism in mind; they were actually meant for playing a game similar to modern-day bridge.
Cyn: It’s actually called the Ryder Waite deck. There’s lots of different styles of Tarot card decks out there. So to start, Tayler I’m going to have you cut the cards. Shuffle them.
TMD: Trying.
ANNOTATION: Wealthy families in Italy commissioned expensive, artist-made decks known as “carte da trionfi” or “cards of triumph.”
TMD: I’m right handed.
Cyn OS: Alright use your left hand.
TMD: Okay.
Cyn: Cut them into three piles.
CUT
Cyn: Now put them back together however you’d like.
CUT
Cyn: Now do it again.
TMD: Oh my gosh, okay.
Cyn: And back together however you’d like.
CUT
Cyn: And one more time. Third time’s a charm.
CUT
Cyn: And back together however you’d like.

Cyn: Okay, so I’m gonna cut the cards in half.
ANNOTATION: These cards were marked with suits of cups, swords, coins, and polo sticks (eventually changed to staves or wands), and courts consisting of a king and two male underlings.
Cyn: So I cut the cards and I pulled one from the bottom from each of the cuts. So the first little bit about your life. You have been working really hard looking for the right partner.
ANNOTATION: Tarot cards later incorporated queens, trumps (the wild cards unique to tarot), and the Fool to this system, for a complete deck that usually totaled 78 cards.
TMD: Mmmm, yeah.
Cyn: And what’s coming- just keep doing what you’re doing and I think in a few more months but what you’re doing is the right thing. And the right match is coming to you.
TMD: Cool. Awesome. I look forward to it. I’m open and receptive.
Cyn: So now I want you to pick a card, any card from the deck.
DRAW: 6 OF WANDS
Cyn: And another one.
DRAW: 6 OF CUPS
DRAW: 9 OF SWORDS
TMD: Oh God, that doesn’t look good. Ugh. Whoo- Whaaa…
DRAW: 10 OF WANDS
TMD: Anxiety.
Cyn: Okay. This card is the past. And this card is the present. And this card is the future.
ANNOTATION: Today, the suit cards are commonly called the Minor Arcana, while trump cards are known as the Major Arcana.
Cyn: And this is the card that you need to work through to get to the future. There’s something that you’ve – a big problem that you’ve overcome. You’ve gone from – you eliminated some things to create a better environment. And there were like three really bad things that you took out of your life and it’s made your life so much better.
TMD: Hmm.
Cyn: And it was in the recent past. These were things that actually… they caused you a lot of hours of crying, just lots of drama. Okay, lots of drama. And —
Spirit: MEOW!
TMD: Good timing.
ANNOTATION: my cat Spirit
Cyn: That’s Spirit. Spirit, you want a reading? There’s something that you’re going to be putting to use in a lot better way, you’re gonna add a few of the things that you took out of your life, back. And you’re going to realize that one thing was really the problem. The most important thing – pay attention when the universe is offering you something. And there’s an opportunity… sometimes you’re giving but you’re not receiving what you’re supposed to get back.
TMD: Mmmm.
Cyn: It’s like being a little bit more open, there’s some things that are owed to you because you’ve been holding back. And that will work itself out if you just like allow yourself to receive when you’re owed. You’re not overtaking, you’re not overstepping your boundaries.

Cyn: Yeah, like – it’s the yin and yang wheel.
TMD: Mmmm-hmmm.

Cyn: So receiving is important – is as important a part of life as giving is. Keep that in mind. Because there’s an element of that, that you need to work out in your head to move forward.
TMD: Okay. That makes sense. I’m really bad about asking for help and things like that.

TMD: Oh cool.
Cyn: So basically the layout I’m doing is a Celtic cross with a few modifications. Pick a card, any card.
DRAW: KNIGHT OF CUPS
Cyn: And another one.
DRAW: STRENGTH
Cyn: Another one.
DRAW: ACE OF CUPS
TMD: Oooo.
Cyn: Oh yeah. And one more.
TMD: [GIGGLES]
DRAW: 7 OF CUPS
Cyn: This card is past/past. This card is future/future. This card is past/future. And this card is future/past. At the time this decision came in and you thought – you listened to this wise person’s advice, you kind of had your own idea of what you wanted out of life. You weren’t sure which thing you should choose. And when this came along it was a Godsend. There is like an opportunity right now coming your way. And it’s going to be used to – this whole section, it’s like a really big advancement in your life. What did you do on the trip?
TMD: I studied abroad in Florence and then I went to Switzerland, I went to Prague, I went to Ireland, I went to France, I went to London.
Cyn: Cool! That sounds like a trip, book me on that trip. There’s an opportunity coming and it’s somehow tied to the way you learned. The Strength card here. The idea from this person that you learned.
TMD: When I studied abroad there was like – like something happened that caused me to look differently at life. But it didn’t have to do with what I studied, it had to do with what happened when I was there. Which is that my parents got divorced and my mom moved to another state and then – And it basically changed the whole family dynamic. How I trust people and view the world and stuff.
Cyn: This card here represents like your biggest idea you had before you took this person’s advice and you went on the trip. You had a million ideas and you didn’t know which one to do. There was one dream or one wish that was still there. It’s kind of like a really big deep wish.
TMD: Well something like acting, or entertaining or –
Cyn: The Ace of Cups is representing it. And this [9 OF CUPS] is representing all the other things you saw as potential choices. Like bad door number four – like you know, gas station attendant. You know like –
TMD: [LAUGHING]
Cyn: And this is you [KNIGHT OF CUPS] – In the future this is you picking up this dream and going with it. You’ve already done a little bit of it.
TMD: I went to school for it, yeah, I mean.
Cyn: This is past/future okay like it’s something you’ve done in the past and you’re going to do a lot more of it in the future.

TMD: Mmm-hmm.
Cyn: I think that like when you work this key out here it’ll happen.
TMD: Yeah.
Cyn: This – this is like you looking over your kingdom. Oh, you have all the right elements going for you right now. Like hold onto this.

TMD: Yeah.
Cyn: Okay, so you finally take the dropped penny. And they’re like Thank God now they can give you something else.
TMD: Yeah.
Cyn: Like you know when you turn your printer off –
TMD: Mmm-hmm.
Cyn: And the app is turned off and it’s like – this is like – start printing – or like there’s 12 things in your cue. You need to turn the button on. Hit print.
TMD: Yeah. The whole movie of my life didn’t happen because of it.
Cyn: Well, that’s kind of how it works.
TMD: Mmm-hmm. Yeah.
Cyn: It’s not the whole movie of your life – it’s that chapter, because you never opened the door to it.
TMD: Yeah.
Cyn: Pick a card, any card.

TMD: I never picked that one.
Cyn: And another one.

Cyn: And another one.
TMD: Ah cool.
Cyn: And another one. Let’s see what that is – oh.

TMD: Oh cool. I don’t know what it means but it’s cool.
Cyn: This whole section are cards that represent what’s going on in your head.
TMD: Okay.
Cyn: Your emotional, internal dialogue. In the past you felt like you were sort of like – one out of a billion. And just a cog in the wheel and just like – oh – maybe like what makes me special is a better way to say it.
TMD: Okay. Like why would I stand out?
Cyn: Really good – really good balance, okay. So this is representing I’m in charge, I’m powerful. I’m gonna take care of this. Fortitude. Your get up and go. Like, taking care of business. Then there’s this other side that’s a little more dreamy. Really focused on who you are as a woman. It’s like questioning how you could get together – like what does your perfect man look like. Who am I and who’s the guy taping into your femininity. And like how those two things connect together. You’ve been questioning it though.
TMD: Mmmm.
Cyn: Whether you’re doing the right thing – because you are. So you have more tools at your disposal than you think. And you’re a little more powerful than you think. TMD: Oh really.
Cyn: Yeah.

TMD: (SINGING) It’s giving me anxiety.

Cyn: Not really good.
TMD: No! Don’t say that! Ah fuck what does this mean?
Cyn: Okay, this is a past to future progression that has a few different elements to it. Let’s see, your hopes and fears.
TMD: Oh okay.
Cyn: And it tells me the ultimate outcome.
TMD: Oh no.
Cyn: Let’s see this is the past. And in the past, girl’s had a lot of sex.
TMD: Not a lot!
Cyn: I’m not trying to make you sound like a ho or anything in that way, I’m just saying relative – it’s all relative –
TMD: Oh I’ve had more sex than others! [LAUGHING]
