Cyn: Hey everybody! Welcome to another episode of In Like Cyn.

Cyn: We are here at the Saban Theater in Beverly Hills for the Producer Guild Nominee Breakfast.
TITLE: PGA Awards Nominee Breakfast
ANNOTATION: The Producers Guild of America is the non-profit trade group that represents, protects, and promotes the interests of all members of the producing team in film, television and new media.

GL VO: So once you have the script and raise the money this second time you, you made a short film is that correct?
ANNOTATION: The PGA has over 6,500 members who work together to protect and improve their careers, the industry and community by facilitating members health benefits, encouraging enforcement of workplace labor laws, the creation of fair and impartial standards for the awarding of producing credits, as well as other education and advocacy efforts.
GL OS: So after you wrote the script without having the rights, and you fall in love with the script, and the writer is really great – and you don’t have the rights to the script so you have to go to Stephen Hawking to…
ANNOTATION: The PGA hosts important industry events including the annual PGA Awards and the Produced By Conference.
GL OS: How do you figure it out?
Cyn VO: Ten films were selected for outstanding achievement in producing.
EVENT STARTS
Cyn VO: They showed us 10 very thought-provoking clips of the nominated films: American Sniper, about US Navy SEAL Chris Kyle. Birdman, a wonderfully crafted story about a washed up actor. Boyhood, told over the span of 12 years this beautiful film celebrates the joys and pitfalls of growing up. Foxcatcher, about a wrestling team preparing for the 1988 Olympics. Gone Girl, a look into the cracks of a portrait of a blissful marriage. Grand Budapest Hotel, about the antics of a popular European ski resort. Imitation Game, about mathematic genius Alan Turing cracking the Nazi code. Nightcrawler, a nocturnal foray across Los Angeles in search of grizzly crime. The Theory of Everything, about the life of physicist Stephen Hawking. And Whiplash, a jazz band leader uses fear and intimidation to push his students to perfection.

GL: And I think everybody can understand now why the PGA has 10 nominees. It would be impossible to weed out, these are great films. So –
CYN VO: A two hour Q&A followed and all the 10 nominated producers talked about bringing their projects to life. I got to shake Mr. Eastwood’s hand, and I got a photo with Mr. Inarritu. And later that night in a separate ceremony Birdman won the PGA Award.
